Phoenix Teacher Pleads Guilty in Affair with Teen Student

Former Paradise Valley High School teacher Jennifer Mally could face up to six years behind bars.

A former Phoenix high school teacher and cheerleading coach pleaded guilty to charges arising from an affair with a 16-year-old male student.

Jennifer Diane Mally had been charged with 17 counts of sexual misconduct with a minor, and pleaded guilty to three of those counts. Under the plea deal, the other 14 counts were dismissed.

The former Paradise Valley High School English teacher faces one to six years behind bars when she is sentenced May 9th.

Her attorney, Mel McDonald, said she changed her plea because "she needs to go on with her life.'' Mally, who was 26 when she was arrested last May, was accused of having a six-month sexual relationship with the victim that began in October 2006. Mally will have to register as a sex offender, surrender her teaching certificate and pay restitution of over $1,600 for counseling for the victim.
