APS and D-backs Team Up to Go Green!

The Arizona Diamondbacks wear Sedona Red on the field, but for one week this month, the D-backs are going green.

During the APS Green Home Stand, Thursday, July 23 through Wednesday, July 29, APS will team with the D-backs to help deliver messages of energy savings, efficiency and Green Choice programs to the fans at Chase Field. On hand to help the D-backs go green will be the APS Clown Troupe and The Renewables, a new team of clean energy superheroes who represent five sources of renewable energy: solar, wind, geothermal, hydro and bio-mass.

During each D-backs home game during the APS Green Home Stand, APS will staff booths where fans can take part in fun activities and get information on APS' energy efficiency programs for their homes as well as the latest on our Green Choice programs and rebates. Look for the APS booths in the main concourse and in the APS Renewables Kids Club in the upper level. The APS Green Home Stand will also feature fun giveaways including one free home energy audit per game and energy efficient CFL bulbs to lucky sections each game.

Will the AZ Diamondbacks move spring training out of tucson

The Arizona Diamondbacks have told Tucson and Pima County officials that they will move their spring training base out of Tucson Electric Park after 2010. The move came after the Colorado Rockies notified the city and county that they would move from Hi Corbett Field, leaving the Diamondbacks as the only major league team in Tucson.

The Diamondbacks, who have wintered in Tucson since their inception in 1998, have been searching for a new spring training site in the Phoenix area. The Chicago White Sox moved their spring training base to the Phoenix area this year. The Rockies and Diamondbacks both have clauses in their leases enabling the teams to leave Tucson unless there are at least three major league teams located in the city for spring training.

"This decision comes with mixed emotions, as we obviously have a deep history with and genuine fondness for Tucson,'' Diamondbacks president Derrick Hall said in a statement. "With the current environment of spring training in Southern Arizona having led to the Colorado Rockies' recent and formal decision to relocate, we find ourselves in the undesirable position as the only MLB team operating there beyond 2010.'' Hall said it would be unreasonable for the Diamondbacks to endure a two-hour drive to play opponents in any other spring training facility.

D-Backs 3 game sweep!

The secret is out: The Arizona Diamondbacks are a darn good baseball team.

The D-backs seemed to fly under the radar heading into the postseason, but after they completed a three-game National League Division Series sweep of the Cubs with a 5-1 win Saturday night, they can no longer hide.

Certainly, their opponent in the NL Championship Series, the Colorado Rockies, will know that the NL-best 90 wins the D-backs compiled were no fluke.

I know the D-Backs are going all the way!!!

Game 2 -vs- the Cubs tonight at 7 pm MST

Support your local team, the D-Backs, tonight on TBS when they play the Chicago Cubs! It all starts tonight at 7 p.m. MST at Chase Field in Phoenix.

GO D-BACKS!!!

Arizona Diamondbacks win game 1!!!

Arizona Diamondbacks win their first game of the National League Division Series at Chase Field against the Chicago Cubs!

It was a great start for the Diamondbacks as they took down Chicago 3-1.

Brandon Webb won the duel in the desert. Webb shut down the Chicago Cubs with his superb sinker, and the young Arizona Diamondbacks got home runs from two of their kids in a 3-1 victory Wednesday night in their NL playoff opener.

Stephen Drew homered in the fourth off Chicago ace Carlos Zambrano, who was pulled after six innings and only 85 pitches. Right after he left, Mark Reynolds homered on the fourth pitch from reliever Carlos Marmol to break a 1-all tie in the seventh. Pinch-hitter Conor Jackson added a sacrifice fly, and the Diamondbacks got two scoreless innings from their strong bullpen. Webb, the reigning NL Cy Young Award winner, allowed four hits and struck out nine over seven outstanding innings in his postseason debut. He walked three and hit a batter.``The most exciting game so far,'' Webb said. ``I was able to keep them off-balance. I had pretty good stuff tonight, great off-speed. Had some great strikeouts, key situations.'' Game 2 is Thursday night, with Ted Lilly on the mound for Chicago against Doug Davis.

Zambrano gave up four hits, struck out eight and walked one before he was pulled by manager Lou Piniella in a move that could be questioned. Before the game, Piniella said he likely would limit Zambrano's pitch count because he would probably bring him back on three days' rest to pitch Game 4 on Sunday. Piniella said he trusted his bullpen to take over. But planning for Game 4 might have cost the Cubs in Game 1. The showdown between 18-game winners was as advertised, with Zambrano matching Webb pitch for pitch through six innings. With Zambrano gone, the Diamondbacks went ahead in the seventh. Reynolds hit Marmol's 2-1 pitch just over the left-field fence for a 2-1 lead. Chris Snyder walked and went to third on Augie Ojeda's single before Jackson came through while batting for Webb.
