Police shoot and a kill suicidal woman in Tucson
Tucson police say an officer fatally shot a suicidal woman after she pointed a gun at police.
Tucson police spokesman Officer Chuck Rydzak said Sunday that officers went to the woman's home Saturday night after she sent a text message to family members telling them goodbye.
Officers heard loud music coming from 57-year-old Joanna Lee Smith's house when they arrived. Smith refused to open her door and told officers to "just go away.''
Officers then heard a single shot from inside the home.
They evacuated nearby residents and tried to contact Smith by knocking on the door, calling her phone and using a loudspeaker from a patrol car.
That's when officers began to break into Smith's window. As they broke a front window, Rydzak says Smith pointed a gun at them.
Officer Daniel Spencer then shot Smith, who later died at a hospital.

UA Student Shoots 2 Men Who Broke Into Home
A University of Arizona student fatally shot two men who forced their way into his off-campus home early Thursday, Tucson police said.
The 23-year-old student was in the small backyard guest house where he lived several blocks north of the university about 12:30 a.m. when two men in their 20s came to the door and forced their way in, police spokesman Sgt. Fabian Pacheco said. The student armed himself with a handgun and shot them both, then called police.
The men were dead when police arrived.
The student didn't know the suspects and there is no indication he was involved in any criminal activity that could have made him a target for the suspects, Pacheco said.
"It could be that they went to the wrong residence - or they went to the right residence but were looking for someone who lived there before,'' Pacheco said. "The victim has only lived there for a few months.''
The student is cooperating with detectives, who are making sure his statements match up with evidence at the scene, Pacheco said. But there's nothing to indicate he did anything wrong.
"All indications are that this is a home invasion,'' Pacheco said. "These individuals forced their way into his home, and he is a gun owner, felt his life was in danger and fired at these suspects.''
One of the dead men has been tentatively identified, but police haven't released the identities of either the suspects or the student.
Great job! Do not let these low life's control you and your lifestyle. Protect yourself, your family and your home from scum like these two home invasion losers. In this economy you have to expect a rise in this type of crime and the police are always to busy to get there in time.

Machete attack at Tucson bus stop - 2 teen girls hurt
Police in Tucson say two girls are recovering from injuries they received when a man with a machete attacked them at a bus stop.
Police spokesman Sgt. Fabian Pacheco says three girls were waiting at a bus stop when a man with a bandana over his face came up behind them and starting hacking with the machete.
Pacheco says a 17-year-old girl appeared to be the main target of Monday night's attack. She was critically hurt, suffering several machete strikes to her face and head, and to her forearms as she tried to fend off the attack.
The 17-year-old's friend tried to intervene and was also struck but not seriously injured. The third friend wasn't hurt.
Pacheco says the girl did not know her attacker, who left in a white four-door Dodge sedan.
