Movie-theater owner Dan Harkins cited for leaving dog in hot car

Harkins said he had parked on the shady side of the Shea 14 theaters near Scottsdale Road and Shea Boulevard at about 5:30 Saturday evening.
He intended to be gone for just a few minutes.

Harkins said he rolled down all four windows and left a bowl of water for Tenga, a 5-year-old Corgi. He also said he checked on her twice and both times she was asleep on the front seat.

While Tenga is fine, Harkins said he regrets leaving her in the car and understands why he was cited.
Harkins said he wants to draw attention to the incident by airing a series of public service announcements in his theaters. The goal is to remind moviegoers not to leave their pets -- or their children -- in cars on hot days.

The temperature inside a closed vehicle on a summer day can soar to more than 140 degree in less than 15 minutes. It takes less time than that for hyperthermia, elevated body temperature, to set in.
That's why police encourage people to call 911 if they see a person leaving a child or a pet in a car during the hot summer months.

Dead woman found in Phoenix trash can identified

Tracy Plaxton found dead in phoenix trash canPolice have identified the body of a woman found in a trash bin over the weekend.

According to Phoenix investigators, the woman is Tracy Plaxton.

The 31-year-old's body was discovered Friday afternoon in a trash can in a Central Phoenix alley.

Based on the condition of Plaxton's body, detectives are treating this case a homicide, police said. It's not yet known how long she had been in the trash container.

Original Story:
Police in Phoenix made a gruesome discovery on Friday afternoon.

Officers found a body in a dumpster near 29th Avenue and Coolidge after receiving a call of an injured person.

Investigators say the victim is a white female in her late 20s or early 30s but has not been identified.

Detectives also do not yet know how long the victim had been in the dumpster.

Police are investigating the death as a murder. A nearby resident who was throwing outhis trash found the body and talked to 3TV.

Phoenix police scoped out the area and canvassed the neighborhood trying to find anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious.

Steve Orr found a woman’s body in his alley’s dumpster. He says she was in a fetal position at the bottom of the trash can.

Police think she was in the dumpster for less than 24 hours and was dumped after being killed at another location.

The woman is between 25 and 30 years old and there were no visible signs of injuries.

Police are still trying to uncover who the woman was.

Valley mom, Eboni Perri of Phoenix Arizona given lifetime probation for starving her 2-year-old daughter to death!

Eboni Perri, child killerA Valley mom has been sentenced to lifetime probation for starving her 2-year-old daughter.

Eboni Perri, who lives in west Phoenix, was sentenced Tuesday under a plea agreement. She pleaded guilty to a reduced charge after she admitted starving her child in 2005.

The state's Child Protective Services Division said it went to Perri's home five times after receiving complaints that the girl was being neglected, but that it never removed the child from the mother's care.

State Attorney General Terry Goddard said Wednesday that CPS has made considerable progress in the past three years.

"Some day we hope that we will never have these tragic stories," Goddard said. "But unfortunately some kids are put in some very, very tragic situations because of misactions by parents."

Goddard said he continues to work with CPS to improve the investigative actions to prevent future tragedies.

"It's unfortunate that we've had some terrible incidents," he said. "We're doing everything possible with CPS to try to improve the investigative actions so that they can make sure those tragedies don't happen in the future."
Perri's daughter, who was disabled, weighed only 14 pounds at the time of her death!

What a sad and cruel situation. I can not understand how this person did not end up in prison. Sad, very sad!
