The Arizona Department of Public Safety received several 911 calls of a pedestrian on the freeway in the area of eastbound U.S. 60 near Alma School Road just before 10 a.m. today.
DPS officers attempted to get the pedestrian to leave the freeway, but he refused, according to DPS spokesman Harold A. Sanders.
Sanders said the man brought out a knife and demonstrated suicidal/homicidal behavior.
Sanders said the officers attempted to convince the man to put down the knife, but when it was obvious he presented a serious danger to himself and others, he was brought under control with the use of the Taser.
The eastbound lanes of U.S. 60 were shut down for a time.
