Gov. Janet Napolitano picked the design from among five finalists recommended by a state commission that sifted through thousands of ideas submitted by state residents.
The U.S. Mint is releasing the Arizona state quarter on Monday, with Mint and state officials honoring the release with a ceremony at the State Capitol.
The top of the tails side of the Arizona quarter shows a view of the Grand Canyon, and there's a a desert scene dominated by a Saguaro cactus below. A "Grand Canyon State" banner joins the images.
Gov. Janet Napolitano picked the design from among five finalists recommended by a state commission that sifted through thousands of ideas submitted by state residents.
The Arizona quarter is the 48th in the series featuring all 50 states. The coins are issued in order of statehood.
Napolitano and Mint Director Ed Moy are scheduled to participate in the 10 a.m. ceremony on the Senate lawn.
