F-16 fighter pilot dies in Arizona

The Air Force has confirmed that an F-16 fighter pilot died when his jet went down in Western Arizona.

The student pilot, identified as 26-year-old 2nd Lt. David J. Mitchill, of Amhurst, Ohio, was practicing air to air combat with another F-16 Friday when the plane crashed. Search teams reached the wreckage Saturday morning.

An Air Force spokesperson said, "We don't know at this time whether an ejection attempt was made. The investigation which takes about 30 days to conclude will reveal a lot of the questions that you're asking right now."

Mitchhill was stationed at Luke Air Force Base.
