Salon owner shoots suspect after hearing the 'code word'
.
It all happened at a salon near 25th Street and Indian School. There have been several robberies in the area so the owner had a code word in case they were being robbed. They had rehearsed it several times and today they used it.
Phoenix Police surrounded a business where the owner is being called a hero. Rodd Wolff took matters into his own hands Tuesday afternoon when a man armed with a gun tried to rob his salon.
Wolff says,“He picked the wrong business and the wrong cowboy to mess with." Police say Wolff shot the suspect three times in the chest after his wife gave the code word. He says, “Today she gave me the word I was hoping I would never hear.” It meant Hair Productions was being robbed.
Wolff adds, "And the next thing I know, she and a client was pushed in my room and a 9 mm was stuck in my face but at that time I had the gun behind a towel ready for him and it was either him or me."
The suspect ended up in the hospital. Wolff held him outside until police arrived.
It's about time we heard some news where the good guy wins!
Valley male teacher accused of molesting students arrested
Deputy U.S. Marshals began hunting for Kennedy in March 2006, at the request of the Apache Junction Police Department. The U.S. Marshals and the Apache Junction Police Department Criminal Investigation Division continued to work together developing leads regarding the whereabouts of Kennedy. Recently, Deputy U.S. Marshals from Phoenix developed significant information that Kennedy was residing in Lawton, OK with his wife and small child. This information was relayed to Deputies in Oklahoma who immediately established surveillance on the residence and arrested Kennedy a short time later.
In 2005 an arrest warrant was issued by the Pinal County Superior Court after Kennedy failed to appear for a court hearing. Kennedy, who was employed as a teacher and youth pastor at the Morning Star Academy Charter School, had been arrested by the Apache Junction Police Department after allegations were made that he molested students at the Morning Star Academy. Kennedy was subsequently released on bond and was believed to have fled the Phoenix area shortly thereafter. During the course of the fugitive investigation Deputies were able to determine that Kennedy had fled to southern California before rejoining his wife and child, at which time they moved to Lawton, OK.
United States Marshal David Gonzales praised the work of Deputies and law enforcement officers adding, "The U.S. Marshals, as well as our state and local partners, will continue to use every available resource to hunt down those who prey upon our children."
Investigators from the Apache Junction Police Department are coordinating with the U.S. Marshals regarding additional investigative leads, and will be pursuing additional charges on co-conspirators.
This arrest was a direct result of the investigative efforts between the U.S. Marshals, Apache Junction Police Department, and the Arizona Department of Public Safety.

Phoenix Teacher Pleads Guilty in Affair with Teen Student
Former Paradise Valley High School teacher Jennifer Mally could face up to six years behind bars.A former Phoenix high school teacher and cheerleading coach pleaded guilty to charges arising from an affair with a 16-year-old male student.
Jennifer Diane Mally had been charged with 17 counts of sexual misconduct with a minor, and pleaded guilty to three of those counts. Under the plea deal, the other 14 counts were dismissed.
The former Paradise Valley High School English teacher faces one to six years behind bars when she is sentenced May 9th.
Her attorney, Mel McDonald, said she changed her plea because "she needs to go on with her life.'' Mally, who was 26 when she was arrested last May, was accused of having a six-month sexual relationship with the victim that began in October 2006. Mally will have to register as a sex offender, surrender her teaching certificate and pay restitution of over $1,600 for counseling for the victim.
Mesa Fire Captain Dies on Duty
Fire Department calls his death a 'devastating loss' A release from Mesa Fire Department says Captain John Delaney was found "in full cardiac arrest" at his desk Monday afternoon.Bouncer KO's Patron; Video Reaches YouTube
Dos Gringos owner Brian Roehrich said the patron, identified as 25-year-old Nicholas Springer, and his friend, 26-year-old Brendan Bank, told bar staff and customers that they were professional fighters.
"There were bodily threats, there were threats of coming back with weapons and killing people," Roehrich said.
Roehrich said bouncers were escorting the two men out of the bar around closing time when the situation escalated into a full-blown altercation in the alley behind the bar.
"The two kids got up and they were pretty upset that they had been thrown out," said Sean Braach, who caught the incident on video. "They started yelling at each other back and forth and the security guards, they probably should have just turned around and went back inside."
Instead, one of the bouncers, Matthew Capane, 26, punched Springer in the face, knocking him out with a single blow.
"This afternoon, the bouncer in question who was viewed on the videotape by the officers, turned himself in," said Scottsdale officer Dave Pubins.
Capane faces one count of assault. He has been released from custody. The video shows Capane pounding his chest after Springer went down. "He was pretty proud of himself after he did that," Braach said. The video then shows more bouncers beating up Bank.
"Kind of basically five on one, just pinned this kid into the corner here," Braach said. "Swinging on him, just throwing punches. Just giving him a beating."
Braach recorded 18 seconds of the brawl before putting his camera away because, he said, he feared for his own safety. "It was really excessive, especially how many guys they had against two kids who were too drunk - barely able to stand," Braach said.
Dos Gringos bouncer Jeff Fleenor said Braach's video doesn't show the whole story.
"They were assaulting bouncers inside the bar. They got taken to the back and it went on. That clip is a piece of everything that happened that night," Fleenor said.
Springer and Bank, both out-of-town visitors from Illinois, were charged with disorderly conduct. Braach posted the video of the fight on YouTube, where it racked up almost 10,000 views by Monday.

Gas Prices Not Expect to Hit $4/Gallon in Arizona
The biggest issue seems to be stability. "Anything can happen. So prices can shoot back up tomorrow, or they could fall a little bit more. And if continue to see them fall or stabilizes, that's when we'll see prices drop."
Michelle Denotty with AAA Arizona says the gas station owners actually absorb a lot of the increases, which is why they can't really lower the prices immediately. They're trying to make up the difference.
So, here in Arizona are we going to see a bigger price increase?
"We are not forecasting $4 a gallon," says Denotty. However, she adds that a pipeline break or a different war breaks out, all bets are off.
Warren Jeffs could face fewer charges
The Mohave County Attorney filed a motion yesterday to dismiss two of the charges against Jeffs.
Apparently the alleged victim has refused to testify.
The charges stem from a case involving an arranged marriage between an underage girl and her older cousin.
The judge is expected to rule on the motion later this week.
Jeffs would still face four counts each of sexual conduct with a minor and incest.
The 52-year-old was already convicted in Utah on similar charges.

Alleged sex-for-gas agreement ends with man stabbed
With gas prices soaring, an east valley woman allegedly bartered oral sex for gas money with a male acquaintance over the weekend. The encounter did not result in a contractual
sex act but rather an aggravated assault by the woman.
Kelli Still, 43, was arrested by Sheriff’s deputies after stabbing Michael Hamilton numerous times in the face and chest with scissors. Still also suffered wounds in the attack
that included a partially severed finger. When deputies arrived at 662 North 96th Street in Mesa, both people were covered in blood and Still told deputies that the fight was a result of a sex for gas contract gone bad.
Still was taken to Fourth Avenue Jail and charged with aggravated assault with a weapon.

Still explaining Phoenix lights after 11 years!
Although it’s been more than a decade, the debate goes on. Some say they're military flares, others say its proof we had visitors from another planet. A Valley UFO hunter insists we are still being visited and he has the pictures to prove it. This home video taken on March 13, 1997 and shows a line of lights mysteriously hovering over Phoenix.
The government said it was nothing more than military flares but others think it's something bigger. "When the Phoenix Lights happened we didn't see an airplane dropping these things out we saw one light popping in next to another light," said Jeff Woolwine. Woolwine is a UFO hunter.
He's been videotaping objects in Phoenix for a decade! He recently captured on camera what he believes to be flares. He said they look nothing like "the Phoenix Lights." "See how they're dumping the flares out here and they burn out quick and if you pay attention you can even see the little airplane light dropping these flares out," he said.
He thinks its much more than that. "In studying this I believe that each light is the entity, is the creature itself so when you see five lights out there you're seeing five creatures five entities you're seeing five life forms if you will," he said.
"They definitely did see something in the sky March 13, 1997," he said.
Steve Kates, better known as "Dr. Sky" has a doctorate in astronomy. He believes the events from that night were without a doubt, from this world. "I believe the first event was simply flares,” he said. “I think it was a cover for the next event which came later which in deed was an aircraft. I think it was a military test very tightly coordinated by the pentagon why and how this information has never been released I have no idea."
He thinks we'll find out one day what really happened. “I think as time goes on we're going to find out more about these big black deltas and these flying reconnaissance triangles," Kates said.
Woolwine believes as time goes by we'll see a lot more of these unidentified flying objects over Phoenix. Woolwine has video he shot a few days ago near South Mountain.
"In my opinion this is not a space craft that we're looking at this is another life form this is another entity,” he said. “It's hard for people to grasp that this isn't a space ship."
Woolwine said if we're expecting little green men to jump out of a space ship, we'll be waiting a long time.
"You need to go off and investigate this for yourself and you need to find out what's going on it's up to you to make up your own mind whether you're seeing flares or whether you're seeing other life form," he said.
3 caught with drugs and beer outside the Sheriff Center
On Sunday March 9th, Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office deputies arrest Felipe Hernandez Galeana (DOB 05/21/75), an illegal alien, sex offender, and three time deportee after Galeana, Cedric Jordon (DOB 02/05/64) and known prostitute, Morshe Gardner (DOB 01/26/68) parked his vehicle in the “Prisoner Loading Only” zone in front of the Sheriff’s Communication Center, located at 1st Avenue and Madison Street.
MCSO
A deputy spotted Galeana through the windows of the communication center grab a beer from Jordon and start drinking it as he walked around the outside of the 1998 Yukon. When deputies contacted the group they found three crack pipes amongst several beer cans.
After a records check all were found to have criminal histories. Clearly Galeana has not figured out how to avoid law enforcement. The three were arrested and booked into the Fourth Avenue Jail.
Large number of illegals involved in freeway roll over accident
A pick up truck rolled over after trying to cross the gravel gore point to the exit ramp.
At least 15 illegal immigrants were inside at the time and many were ejected to the ground.
At least eight fled on foot and the police are still looking for them. Seven others stayed at the accident site with six of them taken to local hospitals for care, two are in critical condition at this time.
Stay tuned for more illegal alien news...
Phoenix is testing the cities water supply
The move comes after a report that prescriptions and over-the-counter medications have contaminated the nation's drinking drinking water.
Mayor Phil Gordon says there's no alarm, just a precaution. "Let me be very clear and very specific, the city of Phoenix drinking water is clean and is safe and does meet all standards," Gordon said.
So why test here?
There were some traces of pharmaceuticals found in Lake Mead. Some of that water does eventually reach Phoenix.
It's my opinion that we will soon be hearing more and more news stories of water that is not safe to drink all over the nation. Sad news I fear.

Sheriff Answers in Handling of Dog Death Case
Sheriff Joe Arpaio has been ordered to answer questions regarding the arrest of Chandler Police Sgt. Tom Lovejoy after the hot-car death of his police dog partner.Lovejoy's attorney wants to interview Arpaio in hopes of proving the Sheriff's office treated the case different from others.
According to the East Valley Tribune, Arpaio refused an interview, so the attorney got a court order forcing Arpaio to talk.
Arpaio's office told the Tribune he hasn't yet received the order, and they'll fight it if they need to. Lovejoy has pleaded not guilty to reckless animal abuse after he left his police dog Bandit in a hot car for 13 hours last summer.
It's not hard to see the truth here. Sheriff Joe goes afer people who need to be taught a lesson. He is a good man and if his office and staff went after this guy who killed his dog, then I know they is good reason to investigate further.
Arizona 4th in the Nation for Foreclosures
Arizona takes the number 4 spot in the nation when it comes to foreclosures as of March 2008.Home foreclosures are continuing to climb across the country, and Arizona is right in the thick of it. Arizona foreclosure activity in February was up 6 percent from January, and has more than doubled from February of last year.
One in every 264 households in Arizona received a foreclosure filing during February - the fourth highest rate in the nation.
Across the country, foreclosure filings jumped 60 percent in February compared with the same month last year.
It sure seems like the right time to buy for anyone looking to hit it big within the 2 years. Remember, when there is a drop there will always be a rise.

Good samaritan rescues man from burning house
It happened at this house near 68th Street and Earll Road, which is north of Thomas Road.
House a total loss One man who was living inside the house apparently saw the flames and got out of the house, but his roommate was trapped in his room.
He was trying to break the window so he could get out when his neighbor came to his rescue.
“I was at a Circle K and I saw the fire and I happened to know the owner of the house so I ran up on it and the owner of the house luckily was not in the house but his roommate was so I helped him out the window,” said Ian Mudgette.
The rescuer just had some cuts and burns, but the roommate had to be taken into the hospital.
The house was a total loss.
An investigation is underway into what sparked the fire.
ADOT Unveils Purple Heart Motorcycle Plate

So I just started thinking, I'm going to look into it a little more. And this just seemed like two people were in charge here, so I just asked, and sure enough it came around," Hageman said.
The new purple heart motorcycle plate is available to all veterans who have been wounded in action and received the purple heart. A $25 fee will be donated to the Veterans Donation Fund.
"Oh this is great. This is a great day, it really is. Just another way that the state of Arizona is honoring the veterans," Hageman said.

More bad news about our water supply
I think we are glancing over this way too fast. In fact, today while watching TV I heard someone say that through many water tests done by professionals, it has come to our attention that the water had things in it such as antibiotics, anti-convulsants, mood stabilizers and sex hormones and many more harmful products in it that should not be there. drugs have been detected in the drinking water supplies of 24 major metropolitan areas — from Southern California to Northern New Jersey, from Detroit to Louisville, Ky.
Think about what we are drinking and putting in our bodies! It's really scary out there today. We need to stay informed and keep a fire under the people who can make a change.

E-85 Now Available in the Valley!
Ethanol-based fuel has been available for months at several outlets in the Tucson area, but the Valley now has its first outlet. Maricopa County has its first E85 fuel pump. The fuel is made from 85% ethanol (derived from corn) and 15% gasoline. Supporters are promoting it as an alternative to gasoline that burns cleaner – with virtually no emissions – and reduces our dependence on foreign oil.
E85 is also about 10% less efficient than gasoline in terms of the BTUs produced, so to keep it competitive with gasoline, the federal government offers subsidies that bring the price down to about 10% below the price of standard gasoline. As of Friday, the only dealer in the Valley – Western States Petroleum, located on 15th Ave. along the railroad tracks south of Jefferson St. – was selling E85 for $2.799 per gallon, as opposed to regular unleaded, which is generally selling in the $3.01-3.15 range.
Many newer vehicles, made in the past four or five years, can burn E85 fuel without any conversion. It's estimated that there are more than 150,000 vehicles in that category in Arizona.
Bob Kec, owner of Western States Petroleum, says his business is also a wholesaler that can supply traditional gas stations with the fuel if they're interested. Western States Petroleum was also the first business in the Valley to offer BioDiesel fuel, made from non-petroleum sources like used cooking oil.

Prominent doctor has his license suspended!
A Valley doctor accused of being a threat to public safety and now his license has been pulled. The doctor in question is linked to some high profile groups including the Harlem Globetrotters.
AZ Medical Board calls for suspension The Arizona Medical Board claims it has credible evidence of substance abuse and because the board said the doctor didn't willfully surrender his license, they've suspended it.
In an emergency session late Friday the Arizona Medical Board declared Dr. Abraham Sayegh an "imminent threat” to public safety, saying there's credible evidence of "substance abuse involving drugs or alcohol."
Dr. Sayegh has an office in a North Phoenix medical building, but he has some high profile connections in the alley.
Several websites list Dr. Sayegh as the medical director of hospice of Arizona.
He's also listed as the team doctor for the word famous Harlem Globe Trotters.
We tried to contact both groups and as of air time tonight have not heard back.
We've also learned the doctor was accused of a similar problem back in the late 80's in New York
We tracked down documents that said the doctor pleaded guilty and surrendered his license to practice there.

Judge declares mistrial in Border Patrol agent's murder trial
A federal judge declared a mistrial today in the case of the U.S. Border Patrol agent charged with fatally shooting an illegal alien illegally crossing the border from Mexico.
Jurors had been deliberating since late last Tuesday before declaring themselves hopelessly deadlocked in the case of Agent Nicholas Corbett.
Corbett was charged with second-degree murder, manslaughter and negligent homicide in the January 2007 death of 22-year-old Francisco Javier Dominguez Rivera of Puebla, Mexico. Jurors could convict on only one charge.
Corbett testified during the trial in Tucson that Dominguez was about to throw a rock at his head and he fired in self-defense.
Dominguez's two brothers testified that he was surrendering and was shot without provocation.
We have to protect our borders people! How can we do that when the people who we put our trust and safety in are not allowed to do their jobs. Our service agents should not have to fear being charged with murder when they are simply doing their job.
Court decision is a joke!
A jury found Marcos Ontiveros not guilty Friday on charges relating to the 2005 Subway restaurant murders.Prosecutors alleged Ontiveros was the so-called getaway driver in the shootings that killed two employees during an armed robbery at a Subway at 43rd Avenue and McDowell Road.
A jury convicted Jesus Jara of first-degree felony murder and armed robbery in August. Jose Bustos changed his plea to guilty in the case in July.
Ontiveros, who was 15 at the time of the killings, was found not guilty of two counts of first-degree murder and one count of armed robbery.
What in the world is the court system thinking here? The jury has to be insane! This is crazy! This fool was the driver for two punks who killed two other "kids" who were working like productive citizens.

Van full of illegals involved in wreck on U.S. 60, Arizona
According to the Department of Public Safety, a van carrying as many as 15 illeagal immigrants was involved in some kind of car wreck.
Some people sustained minor injuries. There's no word if anybody was taken to the hospital as of yet.
The van was the only vehicle still on the scene, so investigators believe this might be a hit-and-run type situation.
This is a sad, almost everyday occurance in Arizona now
Bee's in the news again
In my own backyard, I have noticed that a few bee's have been dead in strange places. I found two just hanging on the side of my wall. Others were just lying on the ground. They were not stepped on or hit, just dead.
I remember last year sometime was when the huge bee story first broke about them disappearing. I wonder if we are losing our bee population?
This can't be good.
Police find another drop house...
Ben Lemoine of channel 3 TV was on the scene.
Ben said police officers on the street told him more than 50 illeagal immigrants, at leas two of them women, were found inside the home.
A photo sent from the scene shows dozens of people sitting out on the street.
Officers from Immigration and Customs Enforcement were en route to the scene.
