A Valley mom has been sentenced to lifetime probation for starving her 2-year-old daughter.
Eboni Perri, who lives in west Phoenix, was sentenced Tuesday under a plea agreement. She pleaded guilty to a reduced charge after she admitted starving her child in 2005.
The state's Child Protective Services Division said it went to Perri's home five times after receiving complaints that the girl was being neglected, but that it never removed the child from the mother's care.
State Attorney General Terry Goddard said Wednesday that CPS has made considerable progress in the past three years.
"Some day we hope that we will never have these tragic stories," Goddard said. "But unfortunately some kids are put in some very, very tragic situations because of misactions by parents."
Goddard said he continues to work with CPS to improve the investigative actions to prevent future tragedies.
"It's unfortunate that we've had some terrible incidents," he said. "We're doing everything possible with CPS to try to improve the investigative actions so that they can make sure those tragedies don't happen in the future."
Perri's daughter, who was disabled, weighed only 14 pounds at the time of her death!
What a sad and cruel situation. I can not understand how this person did not end up in prison. Sad, very sad!
