A bizarre and heart-breaking tragedy hit one Black Canyon City family over the weekend.
Craig and Michelle Looney, their four young daughters and a young nephew were up in Oak Creek Canyon enjoying some cooler temperatures Saturday afternoon when Craig paused for a moment to pose for a photo. Seconds later a tree fell on him and left him fatally injured in the water. His family is still in shock.
Michelle Looney talked about her husband and the father of her children, Craig Looney, 47, a hard-working plumber and devoted family man, was killed in a freak accident Saturday afternoon.
Rescue crews say that upon arrival they found that a rather large tree had come down and struck someone who was in the canyon. A doctor who was in the canyon at the time was able to briefly revive Craig, but by the time the ambulance arrived to transport him to a Flagstaff hospital, the father of four was dead.
Michelle is left with her four young daughters and a fifth on the way and is facing an uncertain future due to a bizarre twist of fate.
Craig was posing for a picture on a family outing in Northern Arizona when a tree snapped and fell right on top of him. At one time or another just about every family has gone to some picturesque place to take some family photos. On this occasion, quite suddenly, the family’s world came crashing down on them in the form of a tree falling in the woods.
To donate to Crag Looney's family, the Arizona father killed by a tree, you can make a deposit at any Chase Bank and Bank of the West location in Black Canyon City.
